Barcode Puerto Rico Educator Training

April 25, 2025
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What is Barcode Puerto Rico?

It is a program for high school students to learn about the biodiversity of Puerto Rico by collecting, sequencing, and analyzing DNA from flora and fauna. This program is based on the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center barcoding programs and Barcode Long Island. During this one-day event, participants will learn how DNA barcoding is used to identify and catalog the living organisms in their environment.

Who should attend

This event is suited for high school and undergraduate biology teachers with an interest in implementing authentic research experiences in their classrooms. Teachers who complete this workshop will be eligible to organize student teams, who will carry out all aspects of DNA barcoding research during the school year. We will also hold training later this year.
